La Center High School students, under the guidance of instructor Rebecca Morris, are helping to evaluate the brooding sites next to the East Fork, where we have established pools where the water is deeper and cooler in summer and gives the fish time to gain strength to head to the ocean to grow. The students will be measuring water temperatures, evaluating water quality, sedimentation rates, and doing some fish counting, with go-pro cameras, other instruments for the tests, and with some snorkeling and studying via kayaks with the assistance of Gayle James, retired teacher, who is also an instructor in swimming, etc. Most of the work will be on the Swanson property. We are grateful for all of the help of these dedicated groups, and happy that some of the next generations will be experts at saving our fish.
